Warehouse Cranes

Warehouse floor space is valuable, and a crane allows you to lift above it.

JDN Monocrane designs and manufactures warehouse crane systems for businesses that need to move heavy, bulky or frequently handled loads safely and efficiently. From full-bay bridge cranes to localised workstation systems, we engineer each crane around your load capacity, warehouse layout, available headroom, travel path and operating duty.

Speak with JDN Monocrane about the right lifting system for your warehouse.

Warehouse Crane Systems Built Around Your Operation

Overhead Bridge Cranes

A bridge crane spans the full width of a bay on runways fixed to the building's own structure or dedicated support columns, giving coverage across the whole working area. Single girder designs suit lighter, more frequent lifts; double girder designs suit heavier-duty warehouse operations.

Gantry Cranes

A gantry crane carries its own support legs rather than relying on the building's structure, which makes it a practical option where a warehouse can't take a fixed overhead runway, or where the crane needs to be relocated later.

Jib Cranes

A jib crane covers a smaller, localised area, typically a single workstation, packing bench or loading point, rather than a full bay. They're a lower-cost way to add overhead lifting to one part of a warehouse without a full bridge or gantry installation.

Workstation Cranes

Workstation crane systems, including our MET-TRACK® range, are built for repetitive, localised lifting at a single point, such as a packing station or assembly bench, where an operator needs a lightweight, low-effort lift many times a shift.

Monorails

A monorail runs a hoist along a single fixed rail, which suits warehouses needing to move loads along a set path, such as between a receiving dock and a storage area.

Which Warehouse Crane Is Right for You?

Crane type Best suited to Space footprint
Overhead bridge crane Full-bay coverage, higher-duty lifting Uses building structure or dedicated columns
Gantry crane Sites without a fixed overhead runway, or a crane that may relocate Freestanding, own support legs
Jib crane One workstation or loading point Small, localised
Workstation crane Repetitive single-point lifting Minimal, at the workstation
Monorail Fixed-path movement between two points Single rail line

Why a Warehouse Crane Beats Relying on Forklifts Alone

Forklifts remain essential for moving pallets and stock across a warehouse, but a warehouse crane solves a different material handling problem.

Where heavy or awkward loads repeatedly need to be lifted within the same area, a crane can reduce the need to bring a forklift into that work zone for every movement. The load is lifted vertically and moved within the crane's operating area rather than carried through the warehouse at floor level.

This can be particularly useful where:

  • loads are too heavy or awkward for manual handling
  • accurate positioning is required
  • lifts happen repeatedly in the same area
  • floor access is restricted by machinery, stock or workstations
  • the load shape makes conventional forklift handling difficult
  • operators need access to machinery or components from above

For many warehouses, cranes and forklifts work alongside each other. The aim is to use each piece of equipment for the movements it handles best.

Common Warehouse Crane Applications

Common Warehouse Crane Applications

A crane in a warehouse can support material handling across receiving, storage, production, maintenance and despatch.

Typical applications include:

  • handling steel, aluminium and other long or heavy materials
  • moving machinery components, motors, pumps and tooling
  • positioning stock or components during assembly
  • transferring materials between production stages
  • repetitive lifting at packing and preparation stations
  • lifting equipment during maintenance and repair work
  • moving heavy or awkward items through defined handling areas
  • supporting loading and despatch operations

The correct system depends on both the load and the movement required.

Custom Crane Solutions for Warehouses

No two warehouses operate exactly the same. Headroom, racking, structural capacity, load size and workflow can all affect the type of crane that will work best.

JDN Monocrane designs custom crane solutions around your site rather than forcing a standard system into the space. Our team can engineer bridge, gantry, jib and other crane configurations to suit your required capacity, span, lift height and existing infrastructure.

With design, manufacture and installation handled by JDN, the crane can be planned around the way your warehouse actually operates.

Why Choose JDN Monocrane?

JDN Monocrane brings more than 45 years of experience to warehouse crane design, manufacture, installation and support across Australia.

  • 45+ years of experience: Designing and supplying crane systems for Australian operations since 1979.
  • Australian-owned and operated: Local engineering, manufacturing and support for Australian businesses.
  • Complete project support: Design, manufacture, installation, servicing and inspections through one supplier.
  • In-house expertise: Qualified engineers, boilermakers, electricians and fitters across the crane lifecycle.
  • Custom crane capability: Systems designed around your warehouse layout, load requirements and operating conditions.
  • Ongoing support: Servicing, inspections, repairs and spare parts available after installation.

Discuss Your Warehouse Crane Requirements With JDN Monocrane

If you need a crane for a warehouse, start with the load and the way it needs to move.

JDN Monocrane can assess your warehouse, lifting requirements and operating duty before recommending an overhead bridge crane, gantry, jib, workstation crane, monorail or custom configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Category

What Is a Warehouse Crane?

The term covers several different crane types, not one product. What they share is a fixed or semi-fixed overhead structure (a bridge, gantry, jib or monorail) carrying a hoist that lifts and moves the load. The right type for a given warehouse depends on the building's shape, the load being handled, and how often the crane needs to run.

Can a crane be added to a warehouse that wasn't built for one?

Often, yes, subject to a site assessment of the building's structure and available headroom. This is standard practice before design work begins rather than an exception.

Is a warehouse crane safer than a forklift for every lift?

Not for every task; they solve different problems. A crane suits fixed-point or overhead lifting, while a forklift suits moving stock across the floor. Most warehouses running a crane still use forklifts alongside it.

Does JDN Monocrane service cranes after installation?

Yes. Servicing and periodic third-party inspection are part of our standard offering, not a separate add-on.
